#please note #that Sophie Devereaux did not actually say she never hurt anyone #because anyone who’s seen her as Annie Croy later on #is fairly certain that’s not true #that line about the razorblade (tags via kc749)
I have this ongoing personal theory that Annie Kroy is who she actually is… O’Hare recognizes Annie, meaning the name’s been in use for a while, one of her repeat-use identities, but nearly all of her non con-specific identities, the ones she hangs on to between jobs, are “higher class” than Annie, Britishly speaking. Annie is rougher than that, more “low class” and as pointed out on the Kung Fu Monkey blog by someone who thought they had found an asspull, she slipped into Annie’s accent BEFORE she was planning to use the identity, when she was getting violent with the guy trying to stab Nate. Why? The commenter said it was convenient because it let her play Annie without the thug calling her on an identity change… but I think it’s because in that moment, being Sophie wasn’t nearly as important as fucking that guy up before he killed Nate. The behavior change (time to throw down!) drove the identity/accent change. Muscle memory.
Sophie’s day-to-day accent is as fake as the name. It’s social climbing.
